From the 5th to the 20th of December 2009 at Iphigenia II hall, "THEATRON"
A performance about man's eternal fear for the "unexpected" in his life
We remember Job mainly through the phrase, which is still in use, "patience of Job". The parable of Job from the Old Testament has inspired numerous artists from Beckett to U2, who used his tormented life to speak about essential issues of the human existence.
Taking as a starting point this story the director Stavros Tsakiris, with the assistance of well known men of letters and arts (G. Veltsos, G. Koumentakis, Y. Metzikov, E. Deco) and a group of fifteen young actors, create a special, contemporary performance, about the perishable nature of life and men’s fear of the "unexpected" and the sudden change in their lives. When man accepts the events like a possible evolution that springs from his nature, he is freed from the slavery of fear and becomes creative and optimistically wise. "Fear is the love that connects us with the others" in the words of M. Anagnostakis.
The performance is not an adaptation of the Biblical story. The text is used in its original form, with several abridgements. It was performed in contemporary language by the actors working under the guidance of the director. However, the performance was the result of the group’s improvisations. These two narrative methods meet one another, when through the "voiceless" narration of the story a hero uses the story of Job as a parable, as an example, always invoking the person who speaks in the original text. "Then Job said...", "Bildad, Job’s second friend, said..." and so forth. The greatest part of the performance is a "silent" narration of events, recognizable situations, from common people in a strange environment.
