The breadwinner on the roof... IS BACK!

The leading actors are Lakis Lazopoulos and Chrisa Rop

Press Release

Last winter he welcomed us on the roof of a sinking house like a modern-day Odysseus, to narrate his passions. From there, Lakis Lazopoulos started a journey to the Greek past, to the people of his life: his wife, played by Chrisa Ropa, a modern day Penelope standing by her husband in a daily life tormented by corruption, political favors and the dissolution of everything, his mother in law, his son, the "Greek mother", his personal angel, and all the souls in the history of the modern Greek from 1960 to the present day. All the problems, which choke him, which made his reality a painful one, his life unbearable, his dreams unrealistic, were "unfolded" through an ordinary, realistic story, humoristic and deeply penetrating.

This is the story that was narrated last year with great success by Lakis Lazopoulos, through his performance "Breadwinner on the roof" which was received warmly by the Athenian public which packed "THEATRON" of the Cultural Centre "Hellenic Cosmos".

Times change! So is reality! Fires devastate nature. Rain is threatening to flood the houses! And our breadwinner returns to his familiar spot! Ready to speak his mind. Determined to fight against current of the times!

"The breadwinner on the roof" –"the performance of the year" as the mass media characterized it– with Lakis Lazopoulos and Chrisa Ropa returns to the stage of "THEATRON" at the Cultural Centre "Hellenic Cosmos" for a limited number of performances. From Thursday 10 December, the "hero of our hearts", who does not relax, comes to talk about his experiences, the life he is refused, the life that passes him by.

Paying attention to the signs of the times and keeping his promise to his friends last year, Lakis Lazopoulos reduces the price of the ticket for this season. With a general entrance at 35 and 22 euros in the balcony, perhaps the lowest price for a theatre performance in Greece, "The breadwinner on the roof" will give the opportunity to more spectators to see him, to share his anxieties, to laugh with his passions, to ponder on his mistakes, to realize his truth! Clearly sensitive about the future of this country, but without forgetting the past from which we can learn, Lakis Lazopoulos set the price of the ticket for students at 15 Euro, a price that has remained unchanged for the last eight years, while the elderly, over 65 years old, can watch the performance every Thursday, with a general entrance of 15 Euro!

Lakis Lazopoulos is responsible for the script and the direction of the performance "The breadwinner on the roof". Young actors, who appear on the stage for the first time, accompany the two leading actors, completing the hero’s life.

Actors: Vlachos Panos, Diakopanagiotou Maria, Kazantzian Sophia, Bratakos Panagiotis, Litinas Titos, Panagiotidou Christina, Sarigiannidi Kiki, Svigos Stavros, Triantafillou Angelos, Tsounis Solon, Fitsiou Zeti. The dancers Kostopoulos George and Stefanidou Rodi also appear.

The unique sets of this splendid performance were made by George Gavalas, a close associate of Lakis Lazopoulos in the last years, while the atmospheric lighting was by Eleftheria Deco. The costumes were designed by Elli Papageorgakopoulou, while responsible for all the movements Konstantinos Rigos. Alexandros Grammatopoulos was responsible for the video that is shown during the performance.

The misuc of the songs in "The breadwinner on the roof" is by Stamatis Kraounakis and the lyrics by Lakis Lazopoulos.

The performance -like in the previous season- will take place in one of the most impressive stages (at Antigone hall), of a unique cultural area of high specifications like "THEATRON" of the Cultural Centre "Hellenic Cosmos" (254 Pireos street). A theatre that also possesses a large parking lot, free for all the spectators.
